Pulau Leebong

A quiet island in northern Belitung that few people visit. There is a natural lagoon, a boardwalk through mangrove forest, and a giant swing suspended above shallow seawater.

Leebong is a bit far from the usual island-hopping route, and that works in its favor. Because of the distance, far fewer visitors come here. If you are looking for a beach that is still quiet and peaceful, Leebong is the answer. The beach is long and curved like a bay. The water is pale turquoise, and usually no other boats are anchored at the same time as yours.

Two activities must not be missed. First, the boardwalk that cuts through the mangrove forest from end to end. It takes about an hour to walk at a relaxed pace. Below the planks at low tide, mangrove crabs and small shrimp cross the mud. Above, mangrove birds perch on aerial roots. The atmosphere is shady and quiet. Second, the giant swing at the beachfront. Climb up, let your feet dangle above the shallow sea, and have someone take a photo. The results are always good, no matter how good your camera is. This place does not try hard to look beautiful. It just is.
