Pulau Pasir

A white sandbar that only surfaces at low tide, twice a day. Large starfish are often left behind here. It feels like walking on water.

Sand Island is not actually an island. No trees, no rocks, no buildings. Just a white sandbar that rises from the seabed at low tide, then sinks again a few hours later. This happens twice a day, following the moon's tidal cycle. Timing is everything. Get here an hour late and all you will see is ordinary sea.

When you arrive at the right moment, the experience is hard to believe. Clean white sand under your feet, ankle-deep turquoise water surrounding you, and no other land visible in any direction. On the sand, large starfish, some as wide as dinner plates, lie waiting for the tide to return. Our guides will always remind you: look, photograph, admire, but do not lift or touch. They are very fragile living creatures. Enjoy this moment. In a few hours, the place beneath your feet will be the seafloor again.
